Team: U13A Hockey (16/1/19) v Dunhurst
Man of the Match: Venisita, for great work ethic and brilliant interceptions! Also Grace for consistent hard work on the pitch.
Report: Fresh from winning the Hampshire tournament that morning, Dunhurst provided far stronger opposition than Boundary Oak could field. Two half pitch matches at 6-a-side and 5-a-side were perfect to allow time on the ball. With us featuring some players completely new to hockey alongside our recreational and stronger girls, we put up a good fight and learned a lot on the way, but could not match the strength and talent of the other team. Despite that it was a great fixture, albeit the poor weather, and everyone enjoyed the experience, showing improvement throughout the duration.
Team: U11 lions
Man of the Match: Lauren
Report: Excellent start to the Hockey term. Very balanced game, worked well together as a team, utilising space to carry the ball to the goal. Attacked the goal really well with Orla, Paida and Lilya working well together up front and some excellent defensive skills from Lauren, Emma and Pippa.
Team: U8 Tigers Rugby Vs Ryde
Man of the Match: Toby
Report: For their first game, they worked well together and gave great support to each other. Great attacking from Toby and Beau scoring a couple of tries in the game. Really good speed on the wing from John and great defending from Rueben and John. Great passing from Joseph and James by looking into space. All the players played well, looking forward for the rest of the season.
Team: U8 Bears Rugby Vs Ryde
Man of the Match: Isaac
Report: The boys played well for their first game and made some great attacking opportunities, with Tommy nearly scoring on the try line. Isaac had a really good game, especially his defending, well done boys.
Team: U10 Rugby vs Princes Mead
Man of the Match: Max
Report: The boys played well for their first game, brave defending especially from Thomas, Bradley and Max. Princes Mead were stronger but we made them work for their tries. Well done for all of the boys, especially Thomas and Finley, for their first game for Boundary Oak. The U11 team travelled to Princes Mead to play 2 fixtures against their very well organised and drilled team. Although the result sadly did not go our way, the level of effort and determination on display was absolutely fantastic – even if the weather wasn’t. Very well played everyone and with a large dose of confidence and some hard sessions of training, there is no doubt we shall soon record our first victory.
Team: U13 Rugby vs Mayville
Man of the Match: Oliver
Report: From the outset Boundary Oak looked the stronger of the two teams making significant inroad every time we got the ball. Some great handling and offloading for a number of tries Charlie, James, Oscar and Henry were constant threats. Body position and number at the ruck is an area for development.
Team U14/15s Rugby v St Edmunds
Man of the Match: Charlie
Report: During a competitive game some crunching tackles by Boundary Oak gained an early advantage causing a turnover and a quick try for Charlie. St Edmunds got back into the game due to some lapses in defence contraction, but two crash ball tries by Orion put Boundary Oak ahead. With a small advantage we held on only to be thwarted by a St Edmunds try, well into injury time, which created a draw.
The U16 rugby team travelled away to St Edmunds on Tuesday arriving with the usual level of good humour and trepidation. Having been dispatched to the far corner of the school grounds onto a postage stamp pitch we finally felt that our luck might be in and we were right. Straight from the start Boundary Oak were on the attack and playing with a level of confidence and skill that could only have come from the coaching of Mr B. A debut try from James and a thunderous run from Captain Miller allowed us to win a hard fought and well played game.
