Boundary Oak Pupils commended for Youth Speaks win
This year, Boundary Oak entered a team of senior school pupils into the Rotary Club’s ‘Youth Speaks’ competition for the first time and were delighted to win the first round!
The team consisted of Joshua C (Chairperson), Lauren C (Vote of Thanks) and Shahryar K (Main Speaker). Joshua introduced the proceedings and kept the team on track and organised. He was confident and clear, starting the talk in a very professional manner. Shahryar had the daunting task of speaking for six minutes on a subject of his choice. Shahryar chose a topic close to Boundary Oak’s heart – growth mindset – and spoke engagingly and fluently for the full allotted time, before answering questions from the audience. Lauren summed up the speech and thanked everyone needed, as well as commenting on Shahryar’s answering of the question. She was clear and calm, providing a perfect ending to the team’s admirable performance.
The competition has been taking place for decades, both in the UK and abroad. In Fareham the competition is very well established, with some local schools entering multiple teams. We competed against three other teams, speaking on topics such as ‘Make up: friend or foe?’ and ‘Can we make a sustainable difference to the Earth’s future?’
The team will now progress to the district heats, where they will compete against the other winners from local towns.^ Back to Top
