With the implementation of our 7Rs and by following our broad and balanced curriculum, we support our pupils to become confident, independent and curious learners, who are caring members of the wider school community.
During their time in Pre-Prep, the children will be taught by our highly experienced teachers, who are ably supported by our dedicated team of teaching assistants. They will broadly follow the National Curriculum which we adapt to ensure learning is about looking for answers, not simply learning answers. In addition, the children benefit from expertise provided by our specialist teachers in PE, art, French, music and outdoor learning and the sharing of specialist facilities with the Prep and Senior School.
A typical week consists of daily English and Mathematics lessons, the content of which takes into account the latest developments and current best practice in Primary Education. Within lessons, differentiation allows for personalised learning for each individual – this may be additional support or facilitating the exploration of greater depth. Beyond the key areas of English and mathematics, much of the children’s learning in science, history, geography, digital learning, RE and PSHE is through cross curricular topics.
The children in Year 3 have the best of both worlds; making the transition to meet KS2 academic requirements, while retaining the security and support of a single class teacher within Pre-Prep. They are given areas of responsibility, one of the most sought-after being a ‘playground friend’ where they are expected to set a good example for children in the younger years, additionally, we also have House Captains, Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and School Council members.
Prior to our year 3 pupils transitioning to the Prep School, we liaise closely with our Prep school colleagues, to ensure the children are well prepared for the next stage of their journey with us.
“Here at Boundary Oak, children are at the heart of everything we do and we value our status, as a caring, extended family. Time and again, all the evidence suggests that strong relationships ahead of most other factors in education and indeed life, help to create good life chances and success for our children.” Mrs Teresa Thomas, Head of Pre-Prep
