Pupil focus: GB gymnast, Finley Hughes set to compete in Philadelphia

Year 6 pupil, Finley Hughes will be travelling as part of a team of 11 gymnasts and 3 coaches to compete at the John Pancott Invitational, an International competition held in Philadelphia, USA. He will arrive in Philadelphia on Wednesday 20th in the afternoon and go straight to podium training. From there, Finley will have a few days training before he competes that weekend, individually and as part of a British team. He will compete on 6 pieces of apparatus, rings, floor, vault, pommel, high bar and parallel bars. Finley will then have another couple of days training and hopefully fit in some sight seeing before returning home.

Finley is currently a National level gymnast, training five times a week for a total of 16 hours at Dynamo Gymnastics Club, having started at a young age. He competed earlier in the year at the Regional Championships and was selected to be part of the South Region team. He then competed at the National Finals in Birmingham, the team placing 4th and  Finley placing 30th individually all-round, giving him his GB ranking.

Finley is hoping to improve on his overall ranking this year and aspires to become an Elite Gymnast.

As always, we wish Finley lots of luck in his forthcoming competition and our very proud of his achievements. Continue to follow his story on our blog.
